U.S. shares opened higher Tuesday following a punishing selloff that saw the major stock indexes plunge at the start of the week amid fears of a coronavirus-induced recession.
But the gains quickly evaporated. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 19 points, after being up more than 300 in the early minutes of trading in New York. That followed Monday’s nearly-3,000 point plummet over growing concern that the pandemic was disrupting supply chains and sidelining workers after infecting tens of thousands of people.
